What a sweet bear panel to quilt! His name is Popcorn and his friends are just as sweet and adorable as he is.

This was the first project working with Molly. She was very intimidating at first, but once I got started, I was pleasantly surprised at how much easier she was to use than my regular sewing machine.
Moving right along with the sun rays making the quilting pop so much more, too.
those funny faces while concentrating so hard ;p
This was such a fun panel to to Free-Motion Quilt. I did study it for a bit to get an idea of where to start and what to do. It was actually a very relaxing this to do on Molly. No need to get all high anxiety like I normally do when using my regular sewing machine.
I guess you could say that I am a very “dense” quilter LOL! Meaning my quilting is very dense or closely quilted. Which made this quilt turn out really neat because all the little animals and tree pop and are puffy! You can see that in the photo on the right just above.
In my adventure of figuring out how and which method of adding binding, I have found that I much like machine binding AND starting on the back. Maybe it’s the perfectionist in me, but I need to see the front and know that I am catching all layers and have an even binding.
I also have learned that when binding panels quilts, I want to make sure I have the binding just right as to the panel design. For example, if you look at the far left photo above, you can see that I have the rainbow border with the stitchy heart in corner. By finishing the binding on the front, I made sure that I had the binding just on the edge as to not cover any of the design up.
The other day was a beautiful day and my bench was still without direct sun, so I took a couple finished quilts out to photograph. I got one complete and placed this quilt on the bench – answered a text – looked up and…
Two hours later she finally got up. No worries. I hadn’t washed it yet and even if I had, I’d throw it through again. She was just too sweet to move 🙂
So what do you think? Any tips on binding or quilting a panel? I would love to hear how you do it!
