White T-shirt Rug

I finally finished my white t-shirt rug! It had been traveling with me to Ohio and back, though that was before the State of Emergency orders took affect.

I dug through my stash and collected all the white t-shirts I had. If I remember correctly, I had a stack of 24. They are all different sizes that I tucked away to be transformed into a rug some day.

As you can see, it doesn’t matter what kind of prints are on the t-shirts, just that they are too worn out. For the most part, you won’t be able to tell what the prints on the shirts were, but you will see a pop of color here and there throughout your rug.

Have you ever pulled all your “white” shirts out and looked at them in a good bright light? If you haven’t, you would find that not all your “white” shirts are actually all the same “white.” To me that makes the rugs even more unique and fun!

As you can see from the images above, there are different white rows and a bit of color, too. I have found that it is easier to cut the t-shirts as I go. When I used to cut and roll into balls, I found that the knits of the t-shirts got thinner because of the stretching when they were rolled into balls.

I finally finished this rug. It is approximately 5 ft wide by 3 ft tall. Now to find it the perfect spot…

I tried it out in front of the dresser in my sewing room (it’s full of my fabric stash, shhhh). George seemed to approve. I’m guessing it was softer to lay on while trying to reach the toys he lost under there.

After thinking about keeping my rug here, I decided I’d try it somewhere different. So I wrestled it away from George, and carried around the house looking and deciding. I decided to put it on this stand in the corner holding a few of my favorite things: a pallet bulb tree my niece made me, my moms old sewing basket, and my antique M&Ms lamp my awesome friend.

And here it will stay! Yeah, it hangs over a bit, but I’m ok with that đŸ™‚
