Not sure how I found this pattern, but very glad I did! It was quick, easy, and fun! It is by Kate Henderson and you can find it HERE.
A few years ago, I did one of those monthly subscriptions and would get a set of 6 fat quarters (FQ) from the same fabric line every month. If was fun receiving them, flipping through them, and admiring them, that it took me some time before I cancelled the subscription. I promised myself I wouldn’t get anymore until I started using what I had up.
That was some time ago, and I am actually holding myself to my promise. And that is why I was so glad to have found Kate’s pattern! It calls for 6 FQs and is perfect for using up some of these fun fabrics that I have.
and then all cut up and ready to be laid out accordingly
Kate explains how to cut each FQ, but the laying out is all on you. I moved pieces around a few dozen times, but that’s just me – always overthinking and trying to get it perfect.
This quilt top went together so smoothly and very quickly! I almost pulled out some more FQs to do another! lol I stopped myself, because finishing projects are at the top on my To-Do list.
It took me a few days to figure out what to use for the backing, but I finally decided on a black with white polka dot cotton fabric.
I tried to sneak and hide in the kitchen to sandwich this quilt alone, but that didn’t work out as planned. George showed up and inspected my work. I did finally get him to sit back and just supervise so I could get finished.
After studying the quilt for awhile, I finally decided how to quilt it.
I did straight lines where they lined up both horizontally and vertically. I stitched inside the large squares, reflecting the seams. Then I put big swirls over the pieced blocks like are on some of the fabrics.
Everything about this quilt is bright and fun! I am very happy with how it turned out.
If you have some FQs just waiting to be made into a quilt, give this pattern a try! Is a great beginner quilt, too.
Stay safe!
Becki 🙂
