I wanted to play with my new machine, a Babylock Jazz II, so I somewhat bravely decided to try appliqué. I read my manual, did a little googling, then took a deep breath and dove in!

A while back, my mom shared this lapel stick because we had discussed trying appliqué, but that is pretty much as far as we got. So I pulled it out, grabbed my freezer paper, some fat quarters, and let my creative juices flow!

I cut blocks for the fat quarters and fussy cut circles to be appliqué here and there. I was hoping a fully worked out project would help keep me on task and not chicken out 😉
Using some scraps, I practiced appliqué with this cute zebra. I had to adjust the stitch size and get the hang of how fast (or not fast) to go, and how to turn my fabric correctly. I think I caught on pretty quick! And it wasn’t as hard as I always thought it was. I used a little adhesive to help the little guy stay in place, too.
Feeling confident I grabbed the first block with a circle and began appliquéing.
I worked my way through appliquéing all the circles I had laid out on the blocks and was very happy with myself for learning something new.
One thing I think I will try next time is using interfacing. Some of the block prints show through the cute little animal prints. That’s ok though. I always love learning something new 🙂

Thank you for sharing how you did your Applique! 🙂 Great pics helpalot..and you explained it so well! Love your project too 😀 Gooood job!
