When I started quilting years ago, I would mostly just knot the quilts or do simple stitch in the ditch. Most of the quilts were throw size or baby quilts. Back in 2012, I was going through some of my older Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting Easy Quilts magazines. I ran across a pattern that I just fell in love with! The pattern/quilt is named Snorkel Time, designed by Gail Kessler. I found it in the Summer 2010 Easy Quilting magazine. The finished size is 72″ X 72″ big!
Knowing what materials I needed, I headed to find the perfect fabric.

To be honest, I do not remember where I found the fabric or the fabric line even (Yikes!), but I found some fun cat fabric that I thought would be perfect! The blocks and pieces were so much bigger than any other quilt I had made up to that time. The part that took the most time was the cutting. I had to pull out my T square from my design classes back in the day lol!
Fast forward–I got the quilt top together and then had to figure out how to sandwich and finish it…I ended up getting one of the those soft fuzzy blankets of the backing. Not knowing how to bind using actual binding, I sewed the the layers face to face, flipped and finished the edges with a straight line.
I printed different sized paws, trimmed, pinned in various places on the quilt, and quilt traced around the shapes.

Here is a couple photos on a king sized bed for better idea of size.

It was been loved and snuggled for many years, but only recently did it occur to me to take some photos.
I think I would like to use this same pattern again and see how it would turn out now, with how much I have learned in the last 10 years.
Here are a couple more photos…

How would you finish a quilt from this pattern? I’d love some ideas for my next one 😉
