Just about every place we go shopping sends us home with a plastic bag with our new goodies. If you’re like me, you have some place in your home that you collect them. But do you ever make a dent in that collection or does it continue to grow?
Well I have been using my collection of plastic bags and finally have had something to do with the canvas and upholstery fabric that has been in my stash.
I make my pillows various sizes and don’t really try to make them in a specific size, so I can’t tell you what size I trimmed these to. I did lay them out face to face and clipped the edges all the way around. Leave a few inches open to turn and stuff.
When I use my clips, I figure out where abouts I will leave an opening. Where you would begin sewing, use just one clip like you would all the way around. Where you will stop sewing to have a large enough opening, put 2 clips together. This helps me not get carried away with sewing and sew all the way around without leaving an opening. Which means I have to get my seam ripper out…
I like to use a chop stick to poke my corners. They seem to work better for me. They don’t roll in my hand and have a blunt tip that doesn’t poke through the fabric.
My big brother had given me a garbage bag filled with plastic bags when I saw him at Christmas. It sat in my trunk a couple months for me to find the right fabric for him. It was kindof fun stuffing the pillows because seeing the stores names on them made me think of home. Especially these bags…
Continue to stuff the pillows until they are as full as you want them to be. Oh! Important side note here…
Once you have the pillows stuffed, stitched the openings closed with a matching thread. I take the finished pillows outside and Scotchgard them with 2 coats. This allows them to be used outside if he wants to.
Now they are ready to be used and loved!
I’ll take them to him when I go to Ohio next. Just remember to not let the cat out of the bag until then 😉
