Notions Runner and Coasters

I’ve had this small stack of squares for some time now and was never sure what to do with them. The other day I ran across them again and began playing with them. I laid out most of them in a pleasing and symmetric way to make a small table runner. I almost stacked them back up and put away, but I made myself continue on.

I had 4 blocks left over after laying out and sewing the runner. The next “fun” step was to figure out what I was going to use to back it.

A few days of digging, sorting, and rummaging around my stash, I decided to use the scraps of burgundy sheet I used to back a larger quilt. It actually worked out perfect! And I got to use up some of my narrow strips of leftover batting!

I stuck to straight line quilting. I love the prints and didn’t want to make the runner too busy with more lines of quilting. I kept the same simple straight line quilting for the coasters, too.

Here’s a good photo of the coasters. The blocks have buttons, which I love, and spools and thimbles.

And there’s the finished Notions pieces!

I think I’ll be keeping these for my sewing room 😉
